# Mailchimp integration

Add form respondents to a Mailchimp audience and map their answers to audience fields.

With the Mailchimp integration, you can add subscribers directly to your Mailchimp audience the moment they submit your form.

## What you can do

With Mailchimp integration, you can:

* Add subscribers to any Mailchimp **Audience**
* Sync form data (email, name, phone, custom fields)
* Keep your email list clean and always up to date

## How to set it up

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Get Your Mailchimp API Key

To begin, you'll need an API key from your Mailchimp account:

1. Log in to your Mailchimp account
2. Navigate to **Account** > **Extras** > **API Keys**
3. Click **Create A Key**
4. Copy the generated key for use in the next step

Reference: <https://mailchimp.com/help/about-api-keys/#Find_or_generate_your_API_key>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Step 2: Add Mailchimp API key to the app settings

1. Open the app > click **Settings** > hover on **Mailchimp** settings > click **Config**

<figure><img src="https://2907469752-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FehM2rz7MmKkWcJmgvJOe%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-93a8544a2b21c69ab8db08e488243ee669401805%2Fscreenshot-integration-mailchimp-integration-1.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In **Mailchimp API key** field, enter API key created in **Step 1** above

<figure><img src="https://2907469752-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FehM2rz7MmKkWcJmgvJOe%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-2ae52a73e6113e1a82e904f181f267d0cb1e864d%2Fscreenshot-integration-mailchimp-integration-2.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. Click **Save** to update the changes
   {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Steps 3 - Select Mailchimp list

Before Map the data, please make sure you create the contact list ([a signup form)](https://mailchimp.com/help/create-a-hosted-signup-form/) in **Mailchimp** to connect the data from the Globo form with that list.

Follow this [link](https://mailchimp.com/help/create-a-hosted-signup-form/) to know more.

1\. Open the app > click **Forms** > open the form you want to deal with

2\. Click **Integration** icon on the left side > enable **Mailchimp** by toggling it on and clicking its name

3\. select a Mailchimp list in **List** dropdown

<figure><img src="https://2907469752-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FehM2rz7MmKkWcJmgvJOe%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-a0f836d9815cb3a6423b67060b0086877892c1b0%2Fscreenshot-integration-mailchimp-integration-3.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="https://2907469752-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FehM2rz7MmKkWcJmgvJOe%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-f5b6b7a1d26197913c1b05df2f0e7230d039754d%2Fscreenshot-integration-mailchimp-integration-4.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Map Form Fields to Mailchimp Fields

Select the value of your form (on the right) to connect it to the fields in **Mailchimp** (on the left)

* The **Email** value is compulsory here to create a new profile in **Mailchimp**
* The other values are optional. Please map them based on your needs

For example: the **First name** field of **Mailchimp** is matched with **First name** field of the form, the **Last name** field of **Mailchimp** is matched with **Last name** field of the form.

<figure><img src="https://2907469752-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FehM2rz7MmKkWcJmgvJOe%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-024a392d7766f37381af54c66635b733e5cdcc16%2Fscreenshot-integration-mailchimp-integration-5.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Publish & Test Your Form

If the form is already published, you just need to save the form after making changes.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## How it works

After a user submits the form, the form sends data to Mailchimp.

* Mailchimp creates or updates the subscriber profile.
* Log in to your Mailchimp account > go to **Audience** > **All contacts**.
* Open the list you integrated with your form > check for the new subscriber profile to confirm data has been added successfully.

Submission detail in the form app:

<figure><img src="https://2907469752-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FehM2rz7MmKkWcJmgvJOe%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-a6f3dca8d50e7fb4a3826d86f5c6c91d32e46c91%2Fscreenshot-integration-mailchimp-integration-6.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

New contact is added to Mailchimp audience list:

<figure><img src="https://2907469752-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FehM2rz7MmKkWcJmgvJOe%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-ebdfeaf403b07a54e56498f91efa210238dd596b%2Fscreenshot-integration-mailchimp-integration-7.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Map form Consent to Mailchimp

When someone submits your form, Mailchimp needs to know whether they agreed to receive marketing emails.

**Consent** means the person agreed to receive marketing email from you, and Mailchimp stores it in a **Marketing Consent** field. Send it wrong and contacts get added without permission, you may not be able to email them, and you risk a GDPR or anti-spam problem.

<figure><img src="https://2907469752-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FehM2rz7MmKkWcJmgvJOe%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-9236b41c110d05733b6a793f5399aca99f6a4445%2Fscreenshot-integration-mailchimp-integration-map-form-consent-to-mailchimp-1.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Set up the consent field

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Add a Checkbox for Consent

1. Open the app > click **Forms** > open the form you want to edit
2. Click **Add Elements** > choose **Consent**
3. **Add field label**

{% hint style="info" %}
Example: `Yes, I am happy to receive emails about products, services, and updates.`
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Add a Hidden Field to Your Form

1. Open the app > click **Forms** > open the form you want to edit
2. Click **Add Elements** > choose **Hidden** element
3. Name the field something clear, for example:
   * `Marketing Consent`
   * or `Email Consent`

<figure><img src="https://2907469752-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FehM2rz7MmKkWcJmgvJOe%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-d5c5644e6ecb62c82aa809f25ab50bf7f44cb90f%2Fscreenshot-integration-mailchimp-integration-map-form-consent-to-mailchimp-2.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

4\. Assign a Consent Value to hidden field

**Data type** → `Dynamic value`

**Rule 1 – If user agrees**

* **When** → select the consent checkbox
* **is** → `Yes`
* **then value** → `subscribed`

**Rule 2 – If user does not agree**

* **When** → select the consent checkbox
* **is** → `No`
* **then value** → `unsubscribed`

✅ Now the hidden field updates automatically.

<figure><img src="https://2907469752-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FehM2rz7MmKkWcJmgvJOe%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-0587525ec95006ca2a5138d334819fd4b74e3edd%2Fscreenshot-integration-mailchimp-integration-map-form-consent-to-mailchimp-3.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Map the Hidden Field to Mailchimp Consent

Now connect the form field to Mailchimp.

1. In the form, click the Integration icon on the left menu > click on **Mailchimp** option
2. Scroll to **Map questions to Mailchimp fields** > find the row for **Status** (or consent field)
3. Map it like this:

* Your hidden field (on the right)
* **Mailchimp consent (Status)** (on the left)

4. Click **Save**

<figure><img src="https://2907469752-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FehM2rz7MmKkWcJmgvJOe%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-a25ae9f19f749694fb011549dadf6b67f8be3b0c%2Fscreenshot-integration-mailchimp-integration-map-form-consent-to-mailchimp-4.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### What Mailchimp receives

Once your form and Mailchimp integration are set up, everything works automatically in the background.

Here’s what happens when someone submits the form:

1. Customer fills out the form

2- The hidden field checks what the customer selected:

* If the customer selects **Yes**\
  → Hidden field value becomes **`subscribed`**
* If the customer selects **No**\
  → Hidden field value becomes **`unsubscribed`**

3. When the form is submitted:

* The email address is sent to Mailchimp
* Mailchimp uses that value to set the contact’s status. Users who agreed are marked as **subscribed**

<figure><img src="https://2907469752-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FehM2rz7MmKkWcJmgvJOe%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-5c9e0198106ca744c30094e97bdb498b9c286374%2Fscreenshot-integration-mailchimp-integration-map-form-consent-to-mailchimp-5.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Troubleshooting

<details>

<summary>Subscriber not appearing in Mailchimp</summary>

Check:

* The **Email** field is mapped to EMAIL (required)
* You submitted a valid email
* Audience is selected
* API key has the correct permissions
* The email is not part of your "Unsubscribed" or “Cleaned” list

</details>

<details>

<summary>“Invalid API key” error</summary>

Double-check:

* You used a **Mailchimp API Key**, not a password
* There are no extra spaces when you pasted the key
* The key has not been revoked or expired

</details>

<details>

<summary>Audience list not loading</summary>

Try:

* Generating a new API key
* Checking if your Mailchimp account has at least one active audience

</details>

## ❓ FAQs

<details>

<summary>Can I add subscribers to multiple Mailchimp audiences?</summary>

But you can use **tags** or **segments** inside Mailchimp to organize subscribers.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do I need an email field?</summary>

Yes. Mailchimp requires an **EMAIL** field to add a subscriber.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Will existing Mailchimp profiles be updated?</summary>
