# Feedback

Ask how someone felt with a row of expression icons instead of a dropdown.

The **Feedback** field shows a row of face icons running from *Very poor* to *Excellent*, and the visitor picks one. It suits a post-purchase survey, a "how was our service?" question on a support form, or a quick reaction at the end of a longer form.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Feedback** is not included in the free plan. On the free plan it is grayed out in the element picker with an upgrade prompt. See [Plans and billing](/settings/plans-and-billing.md).
{% endhint %}

## 🔧 How to Set It

In the form editor, click **Add element**, open the **Ratings** category and pick **Feedback**. The field is added and its settings open on the left.

See [Add and arrange elements](/build-your-form/add-and-arrange-elements.md) for the other ways to add a field and how to reorder them.

## 🔧 Settings

Only the settings specific to this field are listed here. **Label**, **Placeholder**, **Description**, **Required**, **Hide label**, **Column width**, **Conditional display** and the rest of the shared settings work the same on every field.

| Setting               | What it does                                                                           | Default                                   |
| --------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------- |
| **Options** | The list of choices. Each row has an icon, a visible **Label** and a stored **Value**. | Very poor, Poor, Average, Good, Excellent |
| **Hide option label** | Shows the icons without their text underneath. | Off |

### Edit the choices

The **Options** section holds one draggable row per choice. On each row you can:

* rename the choice by typing over its text,
* click the icon at the left of the row to open the icon picker and choose a different one,
* drag the row by its handle to reorder the scale,
* delete the row.

**Add Option** adds one more choice at the bottom. **Bulk add Option** opens the **Bulk Add Values** dialog, where you paste one choice per line and click **Add values**.

Click **Expand** to reveal the **Value** column — the text actually stored in your submissions — and **Collapse** to hide it again. The **Label** column is what the visitor reads (*Text display on your Online Store*); the **Value** column is what you get back (*Data saved*).

{% hint style="info" %}
Keep the values in a consistent order and wording. If you later filter submissions or build a conditional rule on this field, the rule compares against the stored **Value**, not the visible **Label**.
{% endhint %}

### Make the scale shorter or longer

The five default choices are only a starting point. Delete rows to get a three-point scale, or add rows for a wider one. Whatever you leave in **Options** is exactly what the visitor sees, so a scale of *Unhappy*, *Fine*, *Delighted* with three icons is perfectly valid.

Turn on **Hide option label** when the icons speak for themselves and you want a tighter row — useful when the field shares a line with another field.

## 🔄 How It Works

### What the visitor sees

The visitor sees your label, then the icons side by side with their text underneath unless **Hide option label** is on. Clicking an icon selects it, and clicking a different one moves the selection. Only one choice can be selected.

### How the answer reaches you

The submission stores the **Value** of the chosen row, so a customer who clicked the happiest face is recorded as *Excellent* unless you changed that value. That is the text you will see when you open the submission and in an export.

## 💡 Example

* **Post-purchase survey** ⇒ the five faces as they come
* **How was our service?** ⇒ **Hide option label** on for a compact row of icons

## ⚠️ Limits & Notes

* **Feedback** is not included in the free plan. On the free plan it is grayed out in the element picker with an upgrade prompt. See [Plans and billing](/settings/plans-and-billing.md).
* Only one icon can be selected. For a question where several answers apply, use [Checkboxes](/field-types/selects/checkboxes.md) or [Image Options](/field-types/selects/image-options.md).
* Filters and conditional rules compare the stored **Value**, not the visible **Label**. Once a form has submissions, rename labels freely but leave the values alone, or old and new answers stop matching.
