# Quantity

Let visitors pick a whole number using minus and plus buttons instead of typing.

The **Quantity** field is a stepper: a number box with a minus button on one side and a plus button on the other. It suits anything counted in whole units — cases on a wholesale order form, seats at a workshop, or how many samples someone wants sent.

## 🔧 How to Set It

In the form editor, click **Add element**, open the **Number** category and pick **Quantity**.

The field is added and its settings open on the left.

See [Add and arrange elements](/build-your-form/add-and-arrange-elements.md) for the other ways to add a field and how to reorder them.
{% endhint %}

## 🔧 Settings

Only the settings specific to this field are listed here. **Label**, **Placeholder**, **Description**, **Required**, **Hide label**, **Column width**, **Conditional display** and the rest of the shared settings work the same on every field.

<table><thead><tr><th>Setting</th><th width="480">What it does</th><th>Default</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Set min value</strong></td><td>Turns on a lowest accepted quantity. An unlabeled number box appears underneath for the value.</td><td>Off</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Set max value</strong></td><td>Turns on a highest accepted quantity. An unlabeled number box appears underneath for the value.</td><td>Off</td></tr></tbody></table>

{% hint style="info" %}
**Quantity** has no **Placeholder**, no **Default value** and no **Select icon**. The stepper always shows a number rather than hint text. If you need any of those, use [Number](/field-types/number-fields/number.md) instead.
{% endhint %}

#### 🔄 How It Works

**What the visitor sees:** A number with a **minus (–)** button on the left and a **plus (+)** button on the right, instead of a typed box. Clicking **+** or **–** adjusts the value by 1.

**The limit applies immediately** — not at submit. If a visitor's value goes beyond **Set min/max value**, it auto-corrects to the nearest bound right away, the same moment it happens.

<figure><img src="https://2907469752-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FehM2rz7MmKkWcJmgvJOe%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-b0e163590ded93fc584a0b675123769fa04cc92f%2F2026-10-02_17-05-08.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Example:** **Set max value** = `12`. A visitor's quantity reaches `20` — it immediately changes to `12`, before they even reach Submit.

> **📌 Note:** The visitor isn't shown a warning when this happens — the value is simply clamped to the limit as it changes. If you want them to notice the range rather than have it silently adjusted, mention it in the field's **Description**.

**What's saved:** The number itself (after any auto-correction) — stored as a whole number. It shows up in **Submissions**, notification emails, exports, and integrations.

#### 🔁 Compare

<table><thead><tr><th width="206.7332763671875">Use</th><th>When</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Quantity</strong></td><td>Visitor adjusts with minus/plus buttons, whole numbers only</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Number</strong></td><td>Visitor types a number directly, decimals allowed</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Range slider</strong></td><td>Visitor drags between two ends instead of clicking</td></tr></tbody></table>
